We took him with a Paragon, a Warrior, an Elementalist, a Dervish, and my Tyrian Ranger, plus three healer heroes. We were down to just the Warrior at one point against Shiro, but we managed to get him after some creative ressing.
We wouldn't have won without the Warrior.

I just dont get it how ppl find Madness hard, when Pain was ALOT harder....
I've done Gate of Madness with 2 monk hench,1monk hero, Koss, Olias, Paragon hench, Nuker hench. And it was Easy...
I've actually redone it today to get master on it, all you need for this mission is a MM and a Spoil Victor necro...
I've used the same setup for the whole NF campaign

What was Raisu's Palace compared to Shiro then? Seems to me the 2nd to last mission being the hardest isn't a new trend.
I did this with two friends last night, one was a Dervish. She asked what was suggested regarding the Dervish and I jokingly said "To be left in the mission outpost." But anyways, it turns out we couldn't have done it without her, a tank, with our setup. What it turned out to work best was using her as a decoy. We got her DP up to 60, spread our heros out in a large formation (but close enough to still hit him) so impossible odds wouldn't get us, and I put my mesmer with Resurrection Chant behind the wall that makes up the door with all his skills disabled except Resurrection Chant. Shiro would kPWN her, and my mesmer would have her rezed before he could switch targets. Repeat until dead and it worked flawlessly. Could suggest it was tank abuse, but she was still "Tanking," and doing a great job of it.
The Lich, on the otherhand, was being stubborn (just would not pull away from Shiro for well over 20mins) and caused all of the DP we got initially. 333++ damage from a single wand attack and we hadn't put vigors on our heroes yet, so... yeah. He died easily enough by having everyone hide behind the door so he couldn't hit us and my Psychic Distraction mesmer and cond. ranger took care of the rest.
It was fun, and I'd hate to have to do that mission myself, but meh - doesn't need to be made easier.

I still get a kick out of how people can't get this mission. I still go to gates of madness jsut because its funny watching everyone spam omg anet sucks omg shiro owned me.
Really jsut bring a spoil victor necro and a PROTECT monk and its gg. I mean like all NF missions and really all pve missions its easy...

i did this mission yesterday with hench and heros
-Dervish-> me
-Necro SS with empathy and leech signet (interrupt)
-Necro Spoil Victory with Backfire and other interrupt skill that i dont remember,power something.
-Koss (w/r) with gash and apply poison and wild blow
-Devona,
-Menhlo
-Khim (other hench monk)
-herta (Earth ele monk)
After trying this mission sometimes with real ppl,and in one time with other human player that we almost killed shiro,was like 20 hp left for shiro to die ( bad luck), i tried this strategy and only devona died at thos portal wraith ( to much aggro),and i and koss died at the end to the hands of shiro.Only i was death when my hench killed shiro. AH,and i was at dwayna shrine.
Try this and dont rush

After trying to PUG it about 5 times/trying to find a group (I'm a Dervish, so similar problem), I just herowayed it. No deaths at Shiro + Master's is how well it went.
Necro with SV really helps (if you didn't pick Master of Whispers, just go to Lion's Arch and get Olias), but add Insidious Parasite/Price of Failure or Empathy to finish him off.
Acolyte Sousuke had Psychic Distraction as well, which can disable his Impossible Odds for 11 seconds if it hits (a little luck, since PD is 1/4 and IO is 1/2), and it recharges in 2 seconds.

Nothing need to be nerfed in it as I had no problems with my second char dervish to do it with just heros/henchs and hardly did anything in the end by myself.

I can understand how people find this so difficult, but I don't want ANet to make it easier. It's nice to have a difficult mission that you know you have to be fairly decent to get beyond. I just did it with my ranger. I took Devona, Cynn, Kihm (healer) and Mhenlo along with my 3 heroes: Norgu (mesmer), Olias (blood, battery, Spoil Victor), and Master of Whispers (mm). I setup Norgu as anti-warrior and IIRC, I made it through without a single death, including bonus of course. This is my second time through the storyline - the first time with my ele - me and a guildie did it after 3 times.
It's a good feeling to succeed at a mission that you know there's a chance of failure. So many other missions are just so easy.

I (my ranger) was one of the first (definately not the first through) this mission. Didn't know what to expect so went with my standard 2 ranger (BP) heros and a MM hero and the two healer henches, the dervish and the earth ele. Of course I got owned by shiro when I got there as I wasn't set up for him.
Second time I went in, changed the MM to Spoil Victor, went in, killed the Litch, killed Shiro. No one died, was a piece of cake. Just had the necro spam curses, especially spoil victor, Shiro basically kills himself.

I henched this mission second try.
1. Warrior (me) with quivering blade and physical resistance, dolyak ect
2. MM with flesh golem
3. Dunkoro with Peace and Harmony reviled hex and ether sig
4. Zhed with Unstedy Ground (something like that :P)
5. Healing hench
6. Illusion hench
7. Paragon Hench
8. Blood Hench ( i think xD)
The key is to pull Shiro out with out the Lich following him and park your henches outside of the doorway and keep tanking him while Shiro hits you. I died 3 times but when i was dead Master of Whispers made a golem to hold my place. XP After a few more seconds from attacks of the henches he died and we kicked the Liches butt afterwards.
P.S. no i had no wild blow, spoil victor ect...

This can be done with hench, just work on your team a bit.
It should NOT be nerfed. We should have harder missions like this in game.
I did it on my third run with hench. First was finding out where to go, second to see the final fight and third to get it down.

Here's all you need to know for taking out shiro.
All you need is yourself and a partner with 3 heros each. I recommend a healer hero, a pure prot hero, and an OoB Boon Prot hero (works very well). Take a heavy anti-melee hex necro (not Spoil Victor...SS with Reckless Haste, Price of Failure, and SPirit of Failure). Bring 2 E/Mo Searing Flames henchies with one Aegis each, then bring Aegis on the prot monk. You and your partner need to chain it. When he gets to using Impossible Odds do not inflict conditions on him (disable all burning skills etc on heros). Simply keep the anti-melee on him, chain Aegis, and the Guardians from heros will do the rest. The 2 Searing Flames E/Mo's should serve you well in taking out the rest of the mission as well.
Also, take a Wild Blow on your warrior.

Spoil Victor and Wild Blow.
That's all you need.
As long as you have a Necro hero and a Warrior hero, the rest doesn't matter. You don't have to get in a PUG to do this mission.
Granted, until you figure out, it can be a very tough mission.
But once you do, it's a cakewalk.

All those are very sound, though the key is in the warrior taking Wild Blow, and Spoil Victor on a Necro.
The first time I went through that one, I was using my Paragon, teamed up with a fire Ele, two healing monks, a Dervish, a War, and two differently-configured Master of Whispers, where one of them was a SS cursing Nec, and the other had Spoil Victor. Getting to the Lich and Shiro was one thing, killing Shiro, was another. There were times when it was just me and a Monk to res others, but we kept at it, tanking and kiting and all that stuff, but got Shiro in the end. We didn't get the bonus because those two bosses were always in the way between us and the shrines. Otherwise, we had great teamwork to down Abbadon in 14 mins.
